Today, AlManarah’s Director Abbass Abbass and Technology Coordinator Mohammed Iktelaat visited the Al-Tufula Center in Nazareth to give a presentation on rights, accessibility, and employment of persons with disabilities.
Al-Tufula Center is a female-led organization designed to promote rights, equal opportunity, and empowerment for a diverse coalition of women in the Arab society in Israel.
Abbass delivered the lecture as part of AlManarah’s “Employment and Empowerment” workshop series, made possible by a generous grant from the Open Society Foundation. At Al-Tufula today, Abbass stressed the role of Israeli and international law in enforcing the United Nations Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRD). In his presentation, Abbass primarily focused on the subject of human rights as defined by the UNCRPD, based on equality, equal opportunity, and universal dignity.
Technology Coordinator Mohammed Iktelaat also presented at the workshop, bringing attendees’ attention to AlManarah’s International Library for the Print-Disabled (ILPD). The ILPD is the Arab world’s leading platform for accessibility to audio books for print and vidually-impaired individuals; it is free for all persons with disabilities and contains both audio and large-print text versions of more than 3,000 titles in Arabic, Hebrew, and English.
AlManarah’s workshops are a critical component of the Association’s awareness and advocacy efforts; over the past ten years, AlManarah staff and volunteers have facilitated hundreds of workshops for university students, business professionals, and persons with disabilities.
As a non-profit organization, AlManarah depends on the generous donations of individuals and foundations worldwide to continue important initiatives like the “Employment and Empowerment” series. Please support our journey to improve the status of persons with disabilities in the Arab society in Israel.
