CoVision is a one-of-a-kind cycling group that bridges worlds – between people with and without disabilities, between Arabs and Jews, and between challenge and opportunity.
At its center – tandem cycling: The front rider, or “captain,” is a sighted person who leads the ride and navigates the path with confidence. Seated in the rear is a person with visual impairment, and together – through full cooperation – the pair embarks on a journey of connection, shared effort, and inspiration.
Why does it matter?
Many people with visual impairments face social isolation and physical limitations that prevent them from participating in sports. CoVision, a groundbreaking initiative by AlManarah, offers an empowering and inclusive alternative: a weekly ride through nature, lasting 2–4 hours, along a scenic 25–30 km route, with full professional support.
Cycling not only improves physical fitness – it strengthens confidence, boosts self-worth, and offers every participant – sighted or blind – a powerful experience of partnership, achievement, and belonging.
The First Tandem Cycling Group in Arab Society
CoVision is the first group in Arab society in Israel dedicated to tandem cycling for people with visual impairments. Operating since 2017, it has become a milestone in the field of inclusive and accessible sports.
The group regularly participates in national events such as Blind Day, the Israeli Tandem Championship, and the annual Sportiada in Eilat – and has even won several trophies!
Among its members are dozens of adults, teenagers, and children with visual impairments, alongside about 50 sighted volunteers – all motivated by a shared sense of purpose, friendship, and joy in movement.
The CoVision Center in Kibbutz Mizra
The group operates from a dedicated cycling center in Kibbutz Mizra, in the Jezreel Valley, generously donated by the Jezreel Valley Regional Council. The center serves as a starting point for rides, a space for community gatherings, maintenance for 20 tandem bikes, and volunteer training.
