AlManarah has internalized from the outset that we must expand our efforts internationally, with regard to promoting the rights of people with disabilities.
In 2014, AlManarah published a position paper titled “The Doubly-Discriminated,” which presents the many challenges people with disabilities in Arab society face, and in particular their challenges in accessibility, education and employment. The position paper was presented to senior UN officials as part of a series of meetings held by AlManarah for the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights in the UN Geneva ministry.
AlManarah also met with representatives of the Convention Committee on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities, in particular recommending that the State of Israel ratify the Convention’s September 2012 guidelines.
AlManarah’s highlight was in 2017, when we organized a party event during the decade-long International Covenant Legislation on Disabled People’s Rights. At the same event, we presented the groundbreaking digital AlManarah Library that serves as a platform for accessing knowledge for people with disabilities worldwide.
